Internet of Things has a wide range of applications in industry and commerce, and it can be used as a way of networking sensors to provide basic data for artificial intelligence. Compared with commercial applications, industrial control has more requirements for the Internet of Things, such as network security, low interference, and low output power, but the amount of data transmission cannot be very large. Currently, there are existing methods such as Lora, Wi-Fi, zigbee, Bluetooth, etc. lora is more suitable for data transmission in open places, cannot form mesh networks, Wi-Fi transmission distance is short, and cannot form mesh networks, zigbee can form a mesh network, but the transmission efficiency is relatively low.

Bluetooth mesh network is a Bluetooth standard approved in 2017. This is a networking technology. Bluetooth 4.0 above supports BLE low power chips. Bluetooth 5.0 is the latest standard of Bluetooth. Its main advantage is to increase the transmission speed by 2 times and the transmission distance by 4 times, but it and Bluetooth mesh are two concepts.

Bluetooth Mesh was born out of CSR Mesh, a private protocol advocated by CSR, which was born in 2014. The Bluetooth Technology Alliance officially announced on July 19 last year that Bluetooth (Bluetooth) technology began to fully support Mesh mesh networks. The new Mesh function provides many-to-many transmission between devices, and especially improves the communication capability of building a wide range of network coverage. It is suitable for building automation, wireless sensor networks and other Internet of Things solutions that require tens of thousands of devices to be transmitted in a reliable and safe environment.

The network node types of the Bluetooth mesh are as follows:

Proxy: Every device in the network can be accessed through the proxy node, mobile phone, pad and other devices that support Bluetooth.
Edge (edge node): a common node. It does not support functions such as relay. It only sends and receives data.
Relay: The relay node can be used as a relay for messages and forwarded to other nodes. It can also receive messages.

Friend Low power node: The two nodes are used together. The Friend node can cache the information of the Low power node, so that the low power node can wake up regularly and retrieve messages from the Friend node to meet the requirements of low-power applications.

Bluetooth Mesh is different from zigbee. Instead of routing protocol, it uses network flood management technology. Simply put, the data sent by a node will be forwarded by all nodes that support relay, but will not be forwarded indefinitely. The node that has forwarded the data will no longer forward. At the same time, Bluetooth Mesh has some special mechanisms, such as packet lifecycle (Time To Live) management, it also effectively prevents unlimited forwarding of data.

Bluetooth Mesh features

1. The network does not need a central node.

Bluetooth mesh is very different from other mesh topologies. It does not require a central gateway, and the nodes communicate with each other. The nodes are connected to each other through configuration.

2. The node information, which can be configured to enter the network.

The nodes are connected to the network by configuring the configuration. There is no tedious interaction process and route table for the corresponding network access process.

3. Use torrent (Flooding) mode for communication

Compared with general Mesh routing table-based communication, Bluetooth Mesh uses the mechanism of broadcast relay receiving and forwarding to complete message delivery.

4. Use the publish/subscribe model for communication.

A node publishes information and sends a message to the corresponding address. A node subscribing to the address receives a message. This feature can realize one-to-many control and many-to-one control. For example, one switch can control three bulbs, and one bulb can be controlled by three switches. This feature also makes full use of the advantages of Bluetooth Mesh broadcast communication.

5. Dual security mechanisms

Bluetooth Mesh adopts an application layer security key and a network security key to protect the security of the network; the network security key is applied to the entire network, and the application layer key specializes in protecting specialized terminal nodes; for example, light-controlled messages It can be forwarded by switches, actuators, etc. of the same network, and the forwarding process of switches and actuators cannot decrypt specific application data, even if the same network, it is also impossible to control the lights (which makes it more difficult to crack the network).

6. Low power consumption support

For low-power nodes such as battery-powered nodes, other nodes can be formulated as Friend nodes of low-power nodes. When the low-power nodes go to sleep, Friend nodes can instead receive low-power node messages and transmit data to low-power nodes after the low-power nodes wake up.

7. Proxy support

For traditional BLE devices that have implemented BLE 4.0/4.2 protocol, traditional BLE nodes can join Mesh network through proxy nodes. The proxy node and the traditional BLE node transmit messages through specific GATT Profile.
